Bank of America (BAC.US) excludes Merrill Lynch
Bank of America (BAC.US) will remove Merrill Lynch, a 104-year-old name from its investment banking and trading operations, as the brand of Bank of America Securities, the wealth management arm.
Individual departments such as Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Merrill Edge and Merrill Guided Investing will retain their original names. U.S. Trust, a private bank owned by Bank of America, will become Bank of America Private Bank, while Merrill Lynch Private Banking & Investment Group will become Merrill Private Wealth Management, no longer "Lynch".
Ten years ago, Charlotte Bank bought Merrill Lynch in the wake of the financial crisis. As other legendary Wall Street firms, including Smith Barney and Bear Stearns, fade away, the name Merrill Lynch has remained in use since its merger with Bank of America.
Ultimately, it depends on Bank of America's operations.
